PUBLISHERS GUIDELINES - The Rupert & Eithne Strong Award

The Rupert and Eithne Strong Award is presented annually to the author of the best first collection of poems published by an Irish poet in the previous year.

The Strong Award as part of DLR Poetry Now Festival will serve to recognise the promise and achievement of both English and Irish language poets.

First collections published in English or Irish by Irish writers within the calendar year 2009 are eligible

Each press (but not individual poets) must submit two copies of each title eligible for the award, in book, proof or galley form (which will not be returned) before 5pm on December 1st 2009.

Entry is open to poets who are citizens of Ireland or who have been Irish residents for the past five years or longer.

Titles should be sent to DLR Poetry Now, Arts Office, Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, Marine Road, Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin.

No late entries will be accepted.

Collections must be published during 2009. For books scheduled for publishing in November or December 2009 proof or galley form is accepted.

Translations are not eligible.

Short-listed writers will be invited to read at the Strong Reading during the DLR Poetry Now Festival.

The winner will be announced at the Strong Reading, which will take place at the DLR Poetry Now Festival.

The winner will receive €2,500.

The judges' decision is final.
