Writing Workshops

These workshops will be facilitated by contemporary poets and teachers John Burnside and Vona Groarke. Both workshops are aimed at poets who are building towards a first collection. As places are limited, applicants are asked to apply by e-mailing three poems and a list of any publications before Wednesday 10th March at 5pm, marking clearly your preferred workshop. John Burnside, poet and novelist, was born in 1955 and now lives in Fife. He has published twelve collections of poetry, most recently The Hunt in the Forest (Cape, 2009) and Gift Songs (Cape, 2007). His collection, The Asylum Dance, won the 2000 Whitbread Poetry Award. He is Professor of Creative Writing at St. Andrews University.
Vona Groarke was born in Co. Longford in 1964. Her poetry collections, all published by The Gallery Press, include Shale (1994), Other People’s Houses (1999), Flight (2002) which was shortlisted for the Forward Prize in 2002 and won the Michael Hartnett Award in 2003, Juniper Street (2006), and most recently, Spindrift, which was a Poetry Book Society Recommendation for Autumn 2009. She has taught at Villanova University and Wake Forest University in the US, and now teaches at the University of Manchester’s Centre for New Writing.
